Kioi Small Hall

Traditional Hall

Kioi Small Hall was designed so that the delicacy and strength of the style of music can be fully appreciated.
Listen to the sounds of voices, of plucking, blowing and beating.

The charms of timbre in Japanese music lie in the delicate reverberation and resonance peculiar to each kind of instrument.
The know-how of effectively using these sounds was developed in the highly transmissive Japanese buildings made of wood and paper which absorb sounds to just the proper degree.
In order to reproduce the characteristics of sounds in traditional Japanese music, we selected construction materials which allow the interior to properly absorb and send back sounds.
As a result, we succeeded in creating articulate reverberations.
The open stage, modeled after the Noh stage, and one-slope seating are combined to produce a feeling of closeness between the performers and the audience which is enhanced by the small scale of the hall.
One can enjoy the refined delicacy and force of traditional Japanese music while closely observing the performers’ movements, facial expressions and breathing.
(Reverberation time: 0.8 sec. at middle frequencies, occupied)

The extensive view of green foliage commanded from the modern foyer is especially fine.
Suring the intermission, you can enjoy conversing with your friends while taking in the seasonal change in the scenery.
